Part V of V: The Practice of The Three

ree

Hi Actor,

Over the last 4 weeks we've looked at The Artist, The Soldier and The Diplomat. 'The 3 Archetypes of the Actor'. So, what do we do now that we have the 3 archetypes identified and fleshed out? We print this compass (a listing of our own skills, attributes, priorities, lessons, quotes...) out and stick it up somewhere that we can see clearly & regularly. Somewhere that we pass by daily. I have mine up in my room and I check it weekly. This can be as extensive or as simple as you like. Maybe create a long list and a simplified "core" list if you think that would be more practical.

Each week that goes by, reflect on which Archetype you spent the most of your time practicing. Did you have The Soldier up early each day practicing the most? If that's the case, flip it next week and dive deep into The Diplomats work. If you've been emailing, making phone calls, taking meeting, attending events and now feel a lack of fire within your life and work, give yourself the pleasure of practicing the things that set your heart alight with The Artist.

You don't have to only use it as a reflective tool either. You can use it as a tool to guide direction for the week/ month/ year ahead. Maybe you're planning out your time for the next 7 days and you want to evenly distribute time commitment to each of the archetypes: One hour on The Artist; one hour on The Soldier; & another on The Diplomat. You have total freedom of choice here.

Something interesting to note: they all feed into one another. Being disciplined (The Soldier) helps turn up to your creative self (The Artist) even on the days where it is the last thing you want to do. Creating great quality work (The Artist) can lead to more opportunities (The Diplomat) down the road. Having more opportunities brings more situations that are likely to bring inspiration (The Artist). Having more inspiration fuels discipline (The Soldier) - and so on. Remember though, Most career opportunities come from The Diplomat so I'd recommend making him/ her as a priority.

Theme

One last thing to finish on. Don't feel obliged to use my theme shown in this series. If you don't like the name "Artist", find another name to title that archetype. If you want use a "greek mythology" theme, maybe your "Artist Archetype" is instead called "Apollo". Maybe each individual archetype is a god or mythical creature? Perhaps you opt for a Nordic or Sci-fi theme. The choices are endless with this kind of framing - and you get to name them. I recommend spending time creating your very own themed archetypes that sing to your creative soul! The only person that needs to understand and use this, is you. This is all for you.
